Discovering Ithaka

Captain Chip and his Best Mate, Michele, set off to Discover Ithaka. The name of their 40' trawler, named for the Greek Island as described in a poem by Cavafy; his interpretation of Homer's epic describing Odysseus' quest to find his "home", the home of his heart. (see post 06/18/08 to read poem) Together they will circumnavigate the entire eastern United States; also known as The Great Circle Loop...nearly 6500 miles in all. Each day experiencing the journey to the "home" of their hearts.

A Different Perspective

This photo is taken from the bow of Ithaka. We are inside the "flight" lock (11 & 12) at Ranney Falls in the town of Campbellford, Ontario. This takes you around the gorge. Unlike most of the other locks that we went through which were manually operated, this lock is operated hydraulically.
